Meadow Lark

The Meadow Lark, a first-class Pullman sleeper, was used by Southern Pacific from 1930-1941 on its "Lark" train along the California coast. The car was sent back to Pullman in 1941 and then on to the Boston and Maine. Next, the New Haven purchased the car and used it as business car #3.

New Haven later sent the car to be scrapped, but it was instead purchased in 1964 by Willis Barron who used it as a roadside attraction at his Ashland Court Motel. In 1982, the car and Barron's steam locomotive were purchased and moved to Gettysburg, PA. The car had a series of owners until it was donated to the Cheaspeake Railway Assn. in 2005. Restoration is in progress.

The two photos above at right show the car in its heyday. At lower right, the display at the Ashland Court Motel. Below, as it arrived at WS. More details/photos available here.
