Walkersville Southern holds many special events during the year. The most popular, of course, are our Santa
trains in late November and early December. Bunny trains in the spring are also very popular, and for both events
we strongly recommend reservations.
We also organize many different events during the year to enhance our normal operating schedule, and these are
listed in our Special Events calendar.
Walkersville Southern offers a Mystery Dinner Train several times during the operating season.
The event is live theater "on the rail" presented by professional actors, with an all-you-can-eat
buffet supper in a lovely park setting.
Here's what the evening is like. Professional actors will board the train with you at the station
and for about the next hour, they will move about the train for personal interaction with
passengers as the mystery unfolds. Passengers are encouraged to become involved with the developing
plot to whatever degree they are comfortable. Some passengers love being involved while others
prefer to observe. You are here for a good time, so do whatever makes you happy!
Attendants will serve you a soft drink and a snack when the train leaves the station. We do not
serve alcoholic beverages on the train; however, if this is a special occasion for you and you
wish to bring wine to accompany your Candlelight Supper in the Park, please feel free to do so. The
train will proceed down the track toward the end of our line, and then will back up again, all the
while the actors are developing the plot.
After about 45 minutes to an hour, we will disembark the train at Walkersville Community Park to
enjoy a delicious all-you-can-eat candlelight buffet-style supper in the park and, while
you are enjoying your dinner, the mystery continues.
After dinner, we will re-board the train for
the short run to the station, and the solving of the mystery. Please note: the buffet supper is served in the park
during the summer, and on the train in September and October.
We recommend casual dress and flat shoes. The park pavilion is about 100 yards from the train. Our catered buffet normally includes country fried chicken, ham, cold
salads, rolls, butter, and delicious gourmet brownies for dessert, with iced tea, soda and water.
In addition to our regular murder mysteries, we also offer special Halloween "costume party" mystery dinner
trains in October.
This is an event that lends
itself very well to chartering for a company function such as "team building," recognition dinner,
picnic, etc. The actors can modify the mystery to incorporate key
people from your organization.
The Mystery Train departs from the Walkersville depot at 6 PM
and returns no later than 8:30 PM. For individuals, the cost is $45 per person, which includes tax and gratuity.
For those wishing to charter the Mystery Train for a private function, a minimum deposit of $1,680
(40 people) is required with a $45 per person fee for every person over 40 people.
Reservations are required. Gift certificates to mystery dinner trains are available.
